Here are three simple ways to distinguish a good mug from a bad one. After choosing a good mug, you can also customize your own personalized mug.
Look
When you get a mug, first look at its appearance and texture. A good mug has a smooth glaze, even color, and no deformation at the rim. Next, check if the handle is installed straight. If it's crooked, it indicates a substandard product. There should be no glaze shrinkage at the joint with the body; if so, it indicates poor workmanship. You can also hold the mug up to the sun; a good mug should have some light transmission.
Listen
Listen to the sound of the mug. Gently tap the mug with your finger. A good mug will produce a crisp, clear sound. If the sound is not crisp, it indicates that the mug is made of mixed materials. Similarly, listen to the sound where the lid meets the body. If the sound is crisp and has a slight echo, it indicates good quality.
Touch
Touch the mug with your hand. Feel if the surface is smooth, without pinholes or flaws; this indicates a good quality mug. Also, be careful that there is no sticking to the bottom of the cup due to improper glazing process.
